What is functional skills level 2?                                                                                                                                      Functional skills level 2 maths and English are qualifications accepted by most universities and employers as a GCSE equivalent. We provide Ofqual regulated exams to ensure that your qualification is accepted by those requiring it. Functional skills level 2 online is the same qualification as the in-person exams but you can take your exam from the comfort of your own home!

Our level 2 maths course guides learners through 3 main content areas: Using numbers, Understanding measure, shape and space & Handling data. Each of these is split up into smaller topics for you to work through.

Maths Level 2 Exam

The level 2 maths exam is 2 hours long and split into two sections: non-calculator and calculator. One of our online invigilators will help you get onto your exam and make sure the exam runs smoothly.

Getting Your Level 2 Maths Certificate

Once you have sat your maths exam, results will take around 10 working days. If you have passed you will receive your e-certificate and a physical copy will follow shortly in the post.

English Level 2 Online Course

The online English course is split up according to the three exams: Reading, Writing & Speaking, listening and communication. Each section will take you through what you need to know for the exam. Highlighting how to pass the exam.

English Level 2 Exam

The level 2 English qualification is split into 3 exams. The reading and writing are an hour each and usually sat back to back in one exam slot. The SLC is sat separately, for this you will need to discuss a pre-decided topic with other learners.

Getting Your Level 2 English Certificate

You must pass all 3 components to achieve the functional skills level 2 English qualification. You will only receive your e-certificate when you pass the final exam. Your physical copy will follow.

Here are some common questions people have about maths and English functional skills level 2.

A grade 4/C at GCSE is a functional skills level 2 equivalent. This makes a functional skills level 2 exam a great option if you require a GCSE or equivalent qualification.

Results can take up to 10 working days to be released however this can be shorter. As it is the exam board that marks the exams, we have no control over how long marks take to come through.

Yes, there is no requirements for functional skills exams. It is very common for adults to get their maths and English functional skills level 2 as it is a flexible option and equivalent to a GCSE qualification.

While functional skills level 2 are equivalent to GCSEs, they are slightly easier. This is because functional skills contain less content than a traditional GCSE, making them ideal for those who need to get the qualification quickly.

While the pass mark varies from exam to exam, the pass mark for maths tends to be around 55%. We recommend making sure you get at least 55% in a mock exam before you sit the exam, this will give you the best chance of passing first time.

The pass mark for English reading and writing is usually similar, around the 55% mark. The SLC is slightly different and is marked as a simple pass or fail.

Pass rates are significantly higher when our course is used, so we recommend using the courses for your revision.

The best thing to do is start by taking the subject knowledge assessment, this will give you some recommended topics to work on. You can then start making your way through the course, focusing on these recommended topics.
