Entry Requirements
To take the A Level chemistry exam, we recommend that you have a minimum of a grade 4/C in GCSE chemistry and mathematics.
Can I resit A Level chemistry?
Yes you can! If you failed your A level chemistry exam the first time around, you can take your A level chemistry resit with MME exams.
Exam Day Setup
You will take your A Level Chemistry exams at an exam centre, in person, which will be in a paper-based format. If you require the practical component, this will be taken at an earlier date. Our team will confirm everything with you so you are fully prepared.

Passing your A Level Chemistry qualification can open up many career pathways, in disciplines such as medicine, engineering, and lots more. This qualification will also allow you to move onto further education, such as University, and is worth up to 56 UCAS points! - You will be booked in as an A level chemistry private candidate at a local exam centre.
- In advance of the day of your exam we will be in contact to arrange your practical assessment for a time suitable for you, if this is something you require. If you do not book the practical assessment with us, you will need to complete the practical assessment elsewhere to complete the qualification.
- Well before the exam day, our team will confirm the full information with you, including the date, time, and location of the exams, so that you are ready and well prepared.

When can I take my A Level Chemistry exam?
Your A level chemistry exams will take place in the summer of each year, usually in May or June. The results day for A level exams is normally at the end of August.
What do I need to pass the qualification?
To pass the A Level Chemistry qualification with AQA, you need to pass the exam, which consists of 3 papers, as well as the practical endorsement. The practical endorsement needs to be taken prior to the exam. if you do not book the practical assessment with us, you will need source a centre and book it directly with them.

- What’s Assessed: relevant physical chemistry topics (sections 3.1.1 to 3.1.4, 3.1.6 to 3.1.8 and 3.1.10 to 3.1.12), inorganic chemistry (section 3.2), and relevant practical skills
- Question Format: mixture of short and long answer questions
Paper 2
- Type: written exam
- Duration: 2 hours
- Marks Available: 105
- Weighting: 35% of A Level
- What’s Assessed: relevant physical chemistry topics (sections 3.1.2 to 3.1.6 and 3.1.9), organic chemistry (section 3.3), and relevant practical skills
- Question Format: mixture of short and long answer questions
Paper 3
- Type: written exam
- Duration: 2 hours
- Marks Available: 90
- Weighting: 30% of A Level
- What’s Assessed: any content and any practical skills
- Question Format: 40 marks of questions on practical techniques and data analysis, 20 marks of questions testing across the specification, and 30 marks of multiple choice questions
Practical Assessment
The practical assessments are taken place between October and April (not including December). These must attended prior to sitting your exams, and must be attended in the same academic year. The practical assessment consists of three full practical days, preceded by a compulsory lab experience day.

To pass your A Level Chemistry qualification you must pass the exam, which is made up of 3 different papers. Alongside the exam you must pass the practical assessment, this needs to be taken prior to the exam, in the same academic year. You can book your practical assessment through us as well as the exam.

Yes! Upon successfully passing your exam you will achieve the same qualification as you would have if you had sat your A Level Chemistry exam at a school or college.
We will book you in for your A Level Chemistry exams at a local exam centre, your exam will take place in person.
A Level exams always take place in the summer of each year, typically they fall in May or June. The next available exams are next summer, with exact dates currently unknown.
If you require a higher grade than what you previously achieved then of course it is worth attempting an A Level Chemistry resit. You might need a higher grade to progress into higher education, or to satisfy certain employment requirements.
Whilst there are plenty of ways to learn A Level Chemistry online there is currently no option to take an online exam. The exam must be sat at an exam centre, in person, and under exam conditions. Similarly the practical assessment must be done in person.
