The GCSE maths equivalency test is taken online, from the comfort of your own home, with remote invigilation. Your answers are written on paper and then scanned in at the end.

Technical Setup
To sit the maths equivalency test online, please make sure you have the following:
- A Windows PC or laptop or a Mac
- A Microphone and a webcam, which can be built in or external. These need to be setup and working before the exam.
- Strong enough Wi-Fi connection suitable for a video call.
- A pen, paper and a scientific calculator.
- A smartphone to scan in your answers at the end (this must be out of reach during the exam).
Exam day setup
On the exam day, you will need to be in a room where you will not be disturbed. You must show a valid form of ID. You can use a scientific calculator for the calculator section of the exam.
When can I take the exam?
The GCSE maths equivalency exams can be taken 6 days a week, including Saturdays, year round.
When will I receive my results?
Results will be emailed to you within 10 working says of taking the exam, via email. If you need it sooner then you can select the fast track option. This provides results up to 2 working days after your exam.
What is in the maths GCSE equivalency exam?
The maths equivalency test consist of:
- Non-calculator paper - 1 hour - 50 marks
- Calculator paper - 1 hour - 50 marks

The exam takes place through an online platform, in which you would see the questions on the screen, and then write your answers on paper, and scan them in at the end.
You will be emailed a Google meets video call link around 15 minutes before the exam start time, and the invigilator will go through the instructions and do some pre-exam checks.
Yes, you can choose which tier you would prefer to sit. If you require a grade 4 or 5, then we would recommend the foundation exam as there is much less course content to learn. However, if you need a grade 6 or above, then you will need to take the higher exam.
There are no entry requirements for the exam. If you require a GCSE maths equivalent grade 4 or above, then the equivalency may be more suitable for you, as it is more accessible and can be taken throughout the year.
Yes, there is also a full paper based exam product option available.
A Star Exams have been accepted by providers throughout the UK for many years. However, it may be best to check with your provider first to make sure they are accepted.
